Terrific Taiwan: 5 Foods to Try at Old Jiu Fen Street!

Jiu Fen is a mountainous area near Keelung, Taipei. We took the MRT to Zhongxiao Fuxing and boarded Bus 1062 that is headed to Keelung. The journey took around an hour to reach Jiu Fen. The bus will stop right in front of Jiu Fen Old Street.

Jiu Fen Old Street is the most prosperous shopping district, with rows and rows of shops and snack stalls for you to enjoy as you walk along the street.

1. THIS AMAZING PEANUT ICE CREAM POPIAH THING

The peanuts are shaved traditionally, and the ice cream reminded me of the old school ice cream that you get from uncles on their motorbikes. I am not sure why I liked this so much that I bought another one on my way out. I guess it relives me of the food that I eat when I was a kid.

2. Roasted Mushrooms!

The mushrooms are not deep fried, so it's better in a way. Perfect snack as you stroll through the street hehehe.

3. Taro Balls Dessert

I am not a fan of taro balls as I never liked them, but when you are in Taiwan of course you must eat the authentic Taro ball desserts! Look at the colours! :D

Ah perfect for the warm weather.

4. Red Meat Balls

Apparently this is quite famous in Jiu Fen. The meat is marinated with red vinasse, and is enveloped with glutinous paste. It tasted a little exotic to me so I had a mixed feeling about this snack.

5. Taiwan Spicy Sausages

Try the spiciest one, I dare you! :P

Beside food, you can marvel at this kinda view at the end of the street, something which I really like. I think I spent at least 10 minutes just looking the view. :') Old Jiu Fen Street also have little cafes and souvenir shops where you can sip some coffee, or buy some souvenirs home, so no harm spending at least half a day here.
